Unweaving I
Jacquard woven piece/performance
Materials: Wool.
Size: 150x280 cm
Year of production: 2019
During 2020-2022, I worked on “Unweaving.” As a craft artist, material and technique are central to my practice. Weaving is a meticulous process where a single error can affect the entire piece. My work evolves continuously—each discovery builds on the last. This reflects how we often move through life: constantly driven by action and progress. But is this pursuit of progress always meaningful? What if we stopped and reflected, unravelling rather than advancing?
In “Unweaving,” I dismantled machine-woven works by hand, thread by thread, exploring themes of creation and reversal. Inspired by an “egg shape” that symbolizes both construction and the universe, this deconstruction becomes a meditative reflection on progress and its consequences. Ideally, I performed “Unweaving” live in galleries, engaging with audiences as the work transformed. Even if shown as static pieces, these partially unravelled weavings invite contemplation of transformation and time.
